France has accused Iran of unlawfully detaining several of its citizens and keeping them hostage, demanding their immediate release.
The French Foreign Ministry has demanded the unconditional release of two French tourists who were detained in Iran two years ago for spying and have been in custody ever since.
Additionally, Paris has called for the release of two other French nationals detained by Tehran.
Expressing strong disapproval, the French ministry condemned what it labeled as Iran's policy of hostage-taking and continuous blackmail.
The ministry voiced condemnation against the Islamic Republic's practice of coercing public confessions and the inhumane treatment endured by the detained French citizens.
It also brought attention to the hardships of other Europeans imprisoned in Iran and on trumped up charges undergoing show trials.
Last October, a French scholar, jailed in Iran, was sent home after being charged with crimes against national security and spreading anti-regime ideas and sentenced to five years in prison.
She was released along with one of her colleagues who were also imprisoned.
